Theater Senior Session

Theater makes me happy. A few of my siblings were involved in theater in high school, and I was in the pit orchestra my senior year when my high school put on ‘Les Miserables’. Even now with my husband, our favorite thing to do on a date is to go see a show. We were fortunate enough a couple years ago to see the Broadway tour of ‘Wicked’ in Seattle after we went on a cruise to Alaska. Holy smokes! What an incredible show that is! Here at the Midland Center for the Arts, my husband and I have seen many shows over the years. We especially enjoyed ‘The King and I’ a couple years ago, as well as the local production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’.

Theater Pictures

When this senior’s mom contacted me about doing pictures in a theater, I was so excited! This is a first for me in my photography career. This location is important to this senior, and Lilly really wanted to include it in her session. I love that we were able to do it. In fact, we had to reschedule her senior session in order to make it all work out. The first part of her session was at Central Auditorium here in Midland. I love what she is wearing here! Isn’t she lovely? I love it when my senior girls wear prom dresses. We also included pictures with her many Playbills.

Once we finished up at the auditorium, we went to Dow Gardens. You’ll spot her go-go boots which are incredible and so cute! And for the last few pictures, she’s wearing her late grandmother’s sweater and earrings.

Two Sports, Two Locations, One Senior

Two Sports

Two sports are always better than one, right? Especially if your senior is involved in both sports and wants to represent both in her pictures. Well, we did just that for Carin’s senior session.

Downtown

We started downtown, and that’s when we were able to incorporate two sports into her pictures. Isn’t she beautiful? And I always love Midland High School’s colors. That blue looks good on everyone. I’ll also add here at the beginning that Carin got her makeup done professionally. Sometimes my seniors worry that their makeup will look too heavy or not natural. But look! Carin’s makeup was not overdone at all, and it looks lovely. Seniors, don’t be afraid to get your makeup done! If there is ever a time to get it done, it’s for your senior session and for your wedding. 😉

We had such a fun time going around downtown Midland. This place is one of the most requested for senior sessions, but it never gets old.

When we finished there, we headed out to the Chippewa Nature Center. My seniors request this location often as well. While we didn’t incorporate Carin’s two sports there, we did find flowers, fields, and a garden. I love that place SO much.

I also want to give a shout out to all the incredible parents who help out with their child’s session. They carry all the things, help hold my reflector, and are always aware if one hair is out of place. They’re super heroes!

Here’s what Carin’s mom said about the photo session: “We had a wonderful senior picture experience with Eve Tuft! Very professional, easy going and personable. Unusual to have a 17 year old love each and every picture!”

Twirling Senior at Chippewa

Twirling is so underrated, you guys. It’s been my goal this year as a senior photographer to get my clients to show more movement in their pictures. And whenever they wear a dress, twirling is absolutely essential. Wouldn’t you agree? Sometimes I’ll have my senior actually spin around, but in this case, Ashlyn most often simply held on to her dress and lightly twirled without going around in a circle. Seriously so cute in pictures!

Last time I blogged, I showed you the amazing pictures we got from the first half of Ashlyn’s senior session. Isn’t she lovely? Today, I’m taking you back to my favorite location for more of Ashlyn. The Chippewa Nature Center is really one of the best locations for any photo session, and I’ll often see other local photographers working away while I’m there.

What you can’t tell from these pictures is how many mosquitoes were out and waiting for us when we got there. I will always have my repellent with me from now on.

You can see down here on the right we actually did do a full circle with twirling. That always gets the best smiles from my seniors. 😀

With this next outfit though, we got our twirling game on! I love it when my clients wear a dress of some kind for one of their outfits. Some clients have even worn prom dresses to their sessions. Ashlyn’s dress here is perfect for this location, don’t you think?

Wearing layers is also a great idea for senior outfits. It helps add dimension, and it mixes up an outfit.

For her final look, Ashlyn brought this along. Gah, doesn’t she look great in this??

One of the best parts of the whole session was when the calf decided to come up and snack on Ashlyn. 🙂

Ashlyn gets her final images on a flash drive and her beautiful products thsi week! And I can’t wait for her to get them all and for them to be hung up in her house.

To Downtown Midland from Saginaw Senior Session

Downtown Midland is a popular place for my seniors to get their pictures taken. Ashlyn is my first ever senior though who lives in Saginaw. Even though she doesn’t live in Midland, she chose our very fun downtown for her first location. Love it! Also, I always tell me seniors to never wear neon colors. They just don’t look great and take away from the senior themselves. But bright colors like this pink shirt? YES! Absolutely wear bright colors for your session. They provide the right pop of color without being distracting. I also love how this color just looks so good on Ashlyn and totally shows off her fun, charismatic, and happy personality.

Downtown Midland has really spruced itself up this summer. There are little fences and gates, grass in the middle of the street, and new places to sit and eat outside. We took full advantage of these.

This picture on the right just happens to be taken in my favorite spot in Downtown Midland. It’s such a great (and maybe slightly hidden) alleyway.

Isn’t Ashlyn lovely? Most of my girls are worried they won’t photograph well, but lookie lookie. I guess they don’t need to be worried after all. 😀

After hitting up some of my favorite spots, Ashlyn and I decided to have a little fun. 😉 Big shout out to Serendipty Road and Joyful Tantrum for this awesome set-up.

After a quick outfit change, we headed up to the courthouse. I feel like this little spot is a bit underused in downtown Midland. Ashlyn’s outfit paired very well with the location.

Sunshine and Fields Senior Session

Sunshine makes such a lovely element in senior pictures. While I do love an overcast senior session, sunshine adds its own special touch and has a place in my heart. Last time, I blogged about Ellyana’s first half of her session in Downtown Bay City. And what a location! We had overcast light there, which made some locations there easier to photograph. I was really hoping for sunshine when we made it out to the nature center. And Mother Nature delivered.

These first two are when the sun was still deciding on whether or not it wanted to make an appearance.

I just love this dress on Ellyana. One of my favorite parts of planning out each session is seeing what my seniors choose to wear. Their wardrobe plays a big role in how their pictures come together, and even on how I choose to pose them.

Ellyana knew she wanted this next dress for being in the fields with the gorgeous wildflowers all around. And adding on a jean jacket added variety to her outfit. Hello, sunshine! We’re so happy you decided to show your lovely face for this senior session.

Ellyana’s smile is incredible, and she is so easy to pose. Look how natural she makes everything appear!

These final two are some of the favorites from the entire evening.

Here’s what Ellyana said about her session: “I absolutely loved working with Eve for my senior pictures!! She was really good at talking me through poses and making me feel comfortable in front of the camera, which helped make smiling and posing feel natural 🙂 She was also really helpful when deciding on outfits and locations for my session, and I loved every product we purchased.
