Golden Hour at the Chippewa Nature Center

Golden hour. It really is the best time of day for a senior photo shoot. As I posted a couple weeks ago, we had to reschedule this senior session three different times. When we finally did get together, Mother Nature was so good to us. It was worth the wait, and the sunlight at the end of Grace’s session was amazing. Amazing!

Grace had chosen the Chippewa Nature Center for her session and wanted to stay there the whole time. It was a relaxing shoot as we did not have to make it to another location before the sun set. We took our time, looked for different new spots, and overall had a fantastic evening. I left off at the midway point for the first part of her session. We found the perfect light by this fence, and Grace wore her absolute favorite sweater ever. Yes, girl! Bring it! We also got a few shots on these stairs.

The light was just starting to be perfect and was nearing golden hour. Grace really wanted to take some pictures in the tall grass and with flowers, so we made our way over there. Just as we were leaving the stairs, I turned to look at her, and she was standing in the most beautiful light. MAGIC, PEOPLE. Just look at her.

We also happened upon these beautiful fields of wildflowers. Which do you like better, the white flowers or the purple ones? I love them both so much. You guys, The Chippewa Nature Center never fails to disappoint.

I’m not going to lie, this is one of my favorites ever.

After the sun set, we took a few more with her. This was seriously an amazing senior session with an amazing senior and her wonderful mother. Even though we had to reschedule a number of times, it was worth it for these.

Here’s what Grace had to say about her photo shoot: “I had such a wonderful experience! She is so professional, always on time and provided water. She understands her clients and captures the sunlight in such a beautiful way!”

And here’s what her wonderful mother said: “We had so much fun during my daughter’s session with Eve Tuft. Eve took the most amazing pictures, always making sure my daughter was relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend Eve Tuft—her pictures are stunning!”

Thank you two for a delightful experience! Best of luck during your senior year, Grace!

We Had to Reschedule This Session Three Times

We had to reschedule this session three times. Yes, three times! And all the times we canceled was because of the rain. Don’t get me wrong, I really, really love rain. But I also really, really wanted to take this girl’s pictures for her senior session. I first met Grace and her mom at our pre-consultation way back in July. I knew instantly that we were a good match for Grace’s senior pictures. We talked about what Grace had been involved in over the summer, where she wanted her pictures taken, and what her plans were for after she graduates. We also discussed clothing choices, and they both got to see a few different prints and products I offer.

    Reschedule #1

We had her session scheduled for sometime in August, and as the day approached, it looked like it was going to rain. The rain started in the evening, and it kept going. We hoped it would stop in time for her senior pictures, and we even met up at Chippewa Nature Center for them, but it just kept raining. So, we had to reschedule for another day.

    #2

The next date wasn’t until September, and guess what? Yep, you guessed it. It looked like rain again. UGH! I thought for sure we wouldn’t get rained out twice and have to reschedule again, but as the evening got closer I just didn’t think it was going to work out. Sure enough, it poured for hours that evening.

    #3

We rescheduled once more, this time at the very end up of September. Grace had a hair stylist she preferred and really wanted to use, and she wasn’t able to get an appointment with her until at the end of the month. We all crossed our fingers that Mother Nature would cooperate with us. And what do ya know? It was supposed to rain AGAIN on that Saturday! We hurriedly got everything switched to be able to take her senior pictures a couple days earlier, and the day couldn’t have been more lovely. Take a look.

You’re going to see me say this again, but I think she looks like an angel. Isn’t she stunning? This one shows off her eyes so well.

And here are a couple faves of mine from the whole session. This spot always gets the best light for these sessions.

I had so many favorites from this wonderful session at the Chippewa Nature Center! I think this place might be my favorite place for senior sessions. In a couple weeks, I’ll show you what the last half looked like. And trust me, you’re not going to want to miss it. The light! The fields! This amazing young woman! Stay tuned. 😉

  • Stratford Woods Senior Photography Session

    Stratford Woods Senior Photography Session

Stratford Woods is literally about six minutes away from my house. Although I had heard about it before and had seen it from the freeway, I had never gone there until the day before this high school senior’s photo shoot. Whaa?? I took my kids there during the day the week before school started to check things out for my shoot. We loved it! We’ve lived here in Midland for five years. Five years! And we had never made it to Stratford Woods. Since we had such a good time, we actually made it back two more times during the following week. I think we’ll be visiting there a lot next year.

Last week, I blogged about the first half of Saige’s senior photo session. We had such a fun time with her mom and friends. And although it was busy near the Tridge when we arrived, the crowds seemed to clear afterwards. For her second location, we came here. We got there in time for some sun, and would you look at that back light!

We also got one of my favorite shots ever… Look at those gorgeous eyes.

After the sun dipped behind the trees, we focused more on the beach. Saige was brave enough to get into the water a bit.

And I love the colors that were reflected in the water from the sky. It was the perfect ending to a beautiful senior session.

Here’s what Saige had to say about her session:

“I’m absolutely in love with my pictures. I couldn’t have asked for a better, more comfortable setting, and a fun time on top of that. I’m so grateful for the beautiful job that Eve did and I really hope to work with her again!”

    Her mom said:

“My daughter’s senior pictures experience with Eve far exceeded our expectations. Eve’s professional approach to photography was delightfully personable, which helped the outcome of some GORGEOUS pictures. She is so creative and artistic, she captured Saige so beautifully. We are so grateful to Eve and could not have asked for a better outcome. We were blessed with the opportunity to work with Eve and gain a beautiful friend.”

Thanks for the kind words, you two! I am SO glad I’ve had the opportunity to work with you this year. Good luck with your senior year!

  • The Tridge Senior Session

    The Tridge Senior Session

Ah, the Tridge. It’s such an iconic place for us Midland folk. My family and I take walks there often in the summer, and anytime we have someone visit us from out of town, that is the number one spot we take them to. In fact, many people go to the Tridge. I love that it’s always full of people who are walking or biking or skateboarding. When this senior said she wanted to take pictures here, I was excited! Though I’ve done senior sessions in downtown Midland, I have never done one on the Tridge itself. I was also a little apprehensive because of how busy I know it can be. Cloning people out in Photoshop can be a daunting task.

We met in the Farmer’s Market parking lot, and it was COMPLETELY PACKED. I don’t know what they had going on there, but every high school student seemed to be there for some sort of career fair. I didn’t think we could pull off pictures on the Tridge, but I was certainly going to try anyway.

Saige and I met last year when I took her friend’s senior pictures. I also got Saige to be my model for a special photo shoot involving a gorgeous dress. I am so excited that I was able to take her senior pictures this year! She and her mother are amazing, and I love being around them. Of course, Grace, Ella and Violet came too, and they are the best.

We started by walking all around downtown Midland for her senior session. Check these out!

I love that she wore layers and jewelry for her first outfit! That’s always a good choice. We made our way to the Tridge, and the crowds had dissipated some, so we attempted pictures there with her second outfit. Although we did have to wait for people to pass in order to get a few shots, I love the ones we came away with! Also, how cute is that shirt??

  • Rose Garden Senior Photo Shoot in Midland, Michigan

Rose Garden Senior Photo Shoot in Midland, Michigan

Dow Gardens has a rose garden. Have you ever been there? It’s one of my favorite spots in the entire 110-acre place. I especially love to take pictures there, though I have never taken senior pictures there. Until now. Last week, I blogged about the first half of Emma’s senior session. Today, I’ll show you the pictures we got at Dow Gardens.

After we spent some time in Downtown Midland, we drove over to Dow Gardens. Emma also changed into her next outfit, and I have to say that I loved it. The pop of yellow, her hair pinned back, everything came together perfectly. Take a look:

That yellow next to those vibrant flowers is just divine. The next two are some of my favorites from the entire evening. I love that soft smile so much. I also love this particular pathway. The light is tunneled here on Emma’s face, and the overhang of trees frames her so nicely.

We walked over to the rose garden next. I have taken so many pictures of so many roses here before, and I was so excited to finally get a senior subject in front of the camera here! The next few are seriously some of my favorites ever. EVER. Look at that smile.

This one though, tops the cake for me.

After we finished in the rose garden, she changed again, put her hair up, and we took a few around the Children’s Garden and in some corn. Who knew corn could be so photogenic?

Here is what Emma said about her session: “I had such a great session with Eve! Right when I met her I felt completely comfortable with her. Her photography skills are incredible, and I’m so happy we chose her for my senior pictures. She has an amazing ability to make you laugh and capture your personality in pictures! I was in awe when I got all my pictures back to see how beautiful they were.”

Her mom said: “Eve was a pleasure to work with. The images she was able to capture reflected Emma’s personality, and I believe that was a result of her ability to help Emma feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. I would highly recommend Eve to any senior!”

I loved taking these pictures for you, Emma! You are fun, sweet, and made a wonderful model for me.
