Kate – Dow Gardens and the Nature Center Senior Session

Kate is a sweet, intelligent young woman, and I love that I got get to know her. She is confident, fun, and kind. And she absolutely rocked her senior session with me.

All my seniors get to meet with me at my house a couple weeks before their photo shoot. We talk about what they’re planning on wearing, if they’re going to get their makeup done, where they want their session to take place, and they get to ask me questions. I love that I get to meet them before the day of their session! And I also get to give them tips and put their minds at ease. It can be nerve-wracking getting your senior pictures taken! One of the tips I give my seniors is to wear colors. They will really help to bring the focus on you. Kate knew the assignment. I mean, look at this gorgeous blue dress. That color looks amazing on her, and it really help draw your eyes in even more. I love that Kate took my advice. She also took my advice on wearing both casual and dressy outfits for her session. We want a good mix of both. Keep scrolling to see the other amazing outfits she chose.

We had gorgeous weather for her session, and everything went perfectly. Something Kate really wanted was a field picture. Scroll on down and find the ones we got for her. Everything really came together for her! And yes, she did end up in the river at the end. Because she’s a swimmer, of course. 😉

Sunshine and Fields Senior Session

Sunshine makes such a lovely element in senior pictures. While I do love an overcast senior session, sunshine adds its own special touch and has a place in my heart. Last time, I blogged about Ellyana’s first half of her session in Downtown Bay City. And what a location! We had overcast light there, which made some locations there easier to photograph. I was really hoping for sunshine when we made it out to the nature center. And Mother Nature delivered.

These first two are when the sun was still deciding on whether or not it wanted to make an appearance.

I just love this dress on Ellyana. One of my favorite parts of planning out each session is seeing what my seniors choose to wear. Their wardrobe plays a big role in how their pictures come together, and even on how I choose to pose them.

Ellyana knew she wanted this next dress for being in the fields with the gorgeous wildflowers all around. And adding on a jean jacket added variety to her outfit. Hello, sunshine! We’re so happy you decided to show your lovely face for this senior session.

Ellyana’s smile is incredible, and she is so easy to pose. Look how natural she makes everything appear!

Senior Photographer and a Senior Photographer

Senior Photographer (me) was lucky enough to take a picture of a senior who also photographs other seniors. Are you confused yet? 😀 Olivia has actually modeled for me before, so I was stoked to get the chance to be her photographer for her senior year.

Olivia also has her own photography business! She takes beautiful pictures, and I’m rooting for her all the way to continue on the path she’s chosen.

She knew she wanted pictures with flowers in them and chose Dow Gardens as her first location. I love that she chose a dress as one of her outfits. They photograph so well and add movement and femininity to pictures.

Since Olivia is a photographer herself, she knew exactly what she wanted in her pictures – flowers. A girl after my own heart.

I love this next one of her so much.

Olivia was also super comfortable being photographed, and she was up for anything I asked. Walking towards the camera and swirling dresses are quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. And of course, we had to get a picture of her with her camera. 🙂

While finishing up at Dow Gardens, we were able to meet her dad and sister outside who brought her dog for a quick picture. Isn’t Bella so cute?

Olivia wanted The Chippewa Nature Center for her second location. I love this place.

Do you see that small bouquet of flowers she’s holding below? Her little sister picked them for her while we were shooting. I seriously love it so much.

Next time I post you can see the second half of her session. We were able to get so many great pictures of her in her volleyball outfit with amazing light. I’ll see you then!
