  • Downtown Midland, Michigan After the Rain

Downtown Midland, Michigan After the Rain

Last week I had a photo shoot scheduled for Downtown Midland. It rained all afternoon on the day of this particular senior photo shoot. I kept a close eye on the weather, and it kept saying it was going to stop soon. But as the time passed on, it just kept going. What to do, what to do. Our shoot was scheduled for 6:30, and by 5:30 I texted Emma and suggested we cancel. The rain was supposed to stop by 6:30. But I didn’t want to chance it. Emma, however, wanted to go for it all the way! It was still raining by the time I left my house at 6:10 to meet up at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Midland. Literally two minutes before I got there, the rain stopped!

My seniors get to bring along four outfits. Sometimes we’ll schedule a pre-consultation where I get to look at their outfit choices and advise them on what to wear. I didn’t get to meet with Emma before the shoot, so her outfits were a surprise to me. I love what she brought. Seniors, if you want some advice on what to wear, here it is: aside from wearing something that is you, mix it up a bit! Emma brought something fall-y (a cozy and cute sweater). She also brought a summer dress (feminine and sweet). Four her next one, she wore a bright and funky hippie outfit that was so much fun! And then she wore a cute white blouse and jean skirt. See how much variety she was able to get out of her clothing? I loved them all.

  • Best Friend Session Giveaway – Chloe

Best Friend Session Giveaway – Chloe

Chloe and Jada have been best friends since third grade. Isn’t that awesome?? Jada won a best friend session a few months ago, and I recently blogged about her pictures from that day. Today, I’m sharing the ones we took of Chloe.

We started out by meeting together at my house. Cathy Augustin did these girls’ makeup, and I’m always impressed at what a great job she does. An hour later, the three of us drove over to Dow Gardens to start their session. I love best friend sessions! This is my third, and they are always so fun. No one can get you to laugh like a best friend! Here are a few of my favorites from Dow Gardens.

Aren’t her eyes so beautiful? The red shirt really pops with all the green in the background. Pro tip on outfit choice: get something that stands out a bit!

I couldn’t decide which one to put here. I have a super similar picture I took just before this. The only difference is that the other one was more serious. I’m always drawn to close up serious pictures, but I also love a nice, natural smile. I say best friends get you to laugh, but I totally can too! 😉

We had so much fun finding the light at Dow Gardens. We then crossed over that awesome blue bridge (or is it green?) and went to Whiting Forest. I love that place. Also, this rope swing is the bomb.

  • Best Friend Session Giveaway – Jada

Best Friend Session Giveaway – Jada

A few months ago I posted on Instagram that I was doing a giveaway. The winner of my giveaway was going to win a professional photo shoot with makeup included with her best friend. Jada won, and we just had the chance to go out a few weeks ago and get her pictures taken.

Jada and her best friend, Chloe, met up at my house at 5:00. We were lucky enough to have my amazing makeup artist joining us. She always does a fabulous job! Cathy, I SO appreciate you. Cathy did her thing, and all of us had fun chatting together. I think the girls were especially excited to get their lashes on. 😉

    Up First – Dow Gardens

We left my place around 6:15 and headed straight for Dow Gardens. I let the girls choose where they wanted to go for this best friend session, and I love that they wanted to go here! Here are a few of Jada in Dow Gardens. Next week I’ll be posting the ones of Chloe here.

Isn’t she beautiful? I love how she could pull off a serious look so well while still being able to when I got those out of her. After we tromped around Dow Gardens for a while, we headed across the new bridge into the Whiting Forest. What a gorgeous place that is!

Here we played on the canopy walk and took lovely pictures on the trails. It’s becoming a favorite location of mine with all the diversity it has to offer for these portrait sessions.

  • Senior Drum Major | Michigan Photographer in Midland

Senior Drum Major | Michigan Photographer in Midland

I can honestly say that I think I have the best clients ever. The seniors that I’ve had the privilege to work with this past year have all been incredible humans. Grant is no exception. He is hard-working, kind, talented, and simply charming.

A year or so before his session, I had donated a senior session to a silent auction for a friend. Grant’s mom bought it, and when he finally became a senior we were able to go out and get his pictures taken. He and his mom met me for our session at Dow Gardens. After we shot for a while there we headed on over to Grant’s high school – H.H. Dow High. There we were able to take my favorite pictures of the evening (the ones with the trombone!!!) as well as get some awesome shots with him in his band uniform. Grant was the drum major in band his senior year. It brought me back to the days of being in band myself. I LOVED band. The position for drum major here is highly-coveted, and I’d say Grant was well-deserving of the honor.

We ended the evening with some silhouetted shots of him on the bleachers, and I left the parking lot feeling so super excited about the entire session and excited to edit the pictures we just took. This has turned out to be one of my favorite sessions.  I’m thrilled to show you some of the best shots from the evening.
