    Katherine is my third senior for the class of 2023, and she chose my two favorite locations here in Michigan. Bay City State Park beach, and the Chippewa Nature Center. I love these two locations primarily because of how great the light is there. And light, as you know, is what can make or break any photographer. Speaking of light, I really love how we got a mixture of light for Katherine. We had clouds as well as sunshine. I think if I were in charge of the weather, I would choose this for every one of my senior sessions. It just helps add in different looks to the photo shoot.

    In addition to great light, I also really love these two locations because of how much variety you can get in there. The beach has the boardwalk area, the water, and a beautiful sandy location with trees filtering the light. And of course the nature center has fields and pathways and flowers and barns and fences. You just can’t go wrong.

  • Welcome, Class of ’23

    Welcome, Class of ’23

    Welcome, class of ’23! I can’t believe that I am already starting this year’s seniors. It seems like I just had my last senior of ’22 only a couple months ago. And here we are. And what an awesome start it is. 🙂

    Alex, my first senior for the class of ’23, is a complete joy. She’s down-to-earth, super sweet and kind, and completely laid back. In other words, a dream to work with and photograph. Alex chose Dow Gardens as her first location, and I was able to welcome in my first senior of the year at this beautiful location. Does she remind anyone else a tiny bit of a younger Catherine Zeta Jones? Just me? I love the pictures we got here, and I found some new locations for pictures that were perfect for Alex.

    We then headed to the Chippewa Nature Center, and we took volleyball pictures. I love how they turned out. Sports pictures are always fun for me to take. We also found this gorgeous pocket of light in the forest for the next set of pictures, and I love this set so much! Isn’t that light so beautiful? I could have stayed here another hour, but I don’t know that Alex would want her session to be that long. 😉

    Our last set was taken in a beautiful field with adorable flowers and gorgeous light. The CNC never fails to deliver on beautiful light and landscapes. What an amazing welcome we had for the class of 2023! I’m so excited for this year and this group of seniors. Now onto the next!

  • My Last Senior of 2021

    My Last Senior of 2021

    My last senior of 2021 was Andrew, and although it was absolutely freezing outside, we had a really great time. You can’t even tell how cold it was by looking at Andrew. He must handle cold well. 🙂 I, on the other hand, wore a heavy coat and knit hat.

    I took Andrew’s older brother’s senior pictures a couple years ago, so it’s fun I was able to take these as well. In fact, that session with Scott was also my last senior of the year. I have to admit, October is a great month for a senior session. Especially here in Midland when the color is at its peak.

    Andrew picked Dow Gardens for his first location. I took him to a few places I’ve never taken senior pictures at before, and I love the pictures we got. His mom asked to be in some pictures with him, and I’m so glad she did! Anytime my clients want pictures with their kids, I’m happy to oblige.

    We headed downtown for more pictures, and we were able to also include pictures on the Tridge. You can’t get more Midland than that. As we did with his brother before, we ended up at the Founder’s Garden. What a unique spot for senior pictures! Thanks, Andrew and Jesica, for a great time!

  • Dahlia Hill Senior Session

    Dahlia Hill Senior Session

    Dahlia Hill is such a gorgeous place for a senior session, so it’s hard to believe that this one is my first! If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know how much I love dahlias. We like to go to Dahlia Hill as a family in September and October every year and see the variety of flowers they have. If you like flowers, Dahlia Hill might be the perfect place for your senior session. If you like flowers AND your senior session takes place in the fall, this is definitely the place for you!

    Makayla wanted this spot for her first location. I was thrilled about it since I have wanted to do a senior session here for some time. We had so much sunlight, the weather was perfect, and we had an amazing time. Dahlia Hill is also a great location if you don’t want to spend your photoshoot time walking around. Since the place isn’t very big, most of our time was spent shooting pictures. I love how convenient this location is.

    Once we finished up there, we drove out to the Nature Center. And we had the best sunshine and glow for her pictures! Makayla is an excellent model, is easy to pose, and has an air of grace and poise in her presence. She is sweet, polite, fun, and a joy to work with for her senior pictures.

    Here’s what she said about her session: “Eve is an immensely kind and talented individual! She has a wonderful eye for beauty in nature and was a constant force of encouragement and positivity during my time with her. I could not have hoped for a better senior portrait session.”

    Picture-perfect is exactly how I would describe this session. From Taylor herself (so sweet!) to her outfits to the locations and weather, we really had an amazing senior photo shoot.

    Also, take a look at her makeup and hair which she got done professionally. So many of my seniors and their moms worry that professional makeup will look too heavy or unnatural. Taylor’s makeup is a picture-perfect example of how natural it can look. She’s beautiful without it. She’s beautiful with it. But wearing professional makeup makes editing for me SO much faster. I imagine it also helps Taylor feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. It’s a win-win situation! I’m always an advocate for my seniors getting their makeup done professionally, even if they hardly want any makeup done at all. Taylor’s makeup and hair pictured here are done by Laura from LC Makeup Artistry. I highly recommend her! Although I recommend my seniors get their makeup done, it is always their choice.

    Dow Gardens

    This session started at Dow Gardens. It was dark and overcast when we started, so we relied on my reflector quite a bit. I even got to pull out my flash for a few shots. Take a look at her gorgeous outfits. They are SO well put together! From the colors to the jewelry to the shoes, each outfit is a perfect example of dressing for your senior session.

    Next, after we were done at Dow Gardens we made our way to the CNC and even caught some sunshine in our pictures. She brought her softball gear with her, and those are some of my favorites from the whole senior session.

    At the end, Taylor wore the cutest white dress. This completely shows her ability to be both tomboy and girly girl in one evening. Taylor, you are a dream to photograph! Thank you for bringing your A-game to your session. I loved every minute with you and your parents. Good luck finishing up your senior year!
