Senior Drum Major | Michigan Photographer in Midland

I can honestly say that I think I have the best clients ever. The seniors that I’ve had the privilege to work with this past year have all been incredible humans. Grant is no exception. He is hard-working, kind, talented, and simply charming.

A year or so before his session, I had donated a senior session to a silent auction for a friend. Grant’s mom bought it, and when he finally became a senior we were able to go out and get his pictures taken. He and his mom met me for our session at Dow Gardens. After we shot for a while there we headed on over to Grant’s high school – H.H. Dow High. There we were able to take my favorite pictures of the evening (the ones with the trombone!!!) as well as get some awesome shots with him in his band uniform. Grant was the drum major in band his senior year. It brought me back to the days of being in band myself. I LOVED band. The position for drum major here is highly-coveted, and I’d say Grant was well-deserving of the honor.

We ended the evening with some silhouetted shots of him on the bleachers, and I left the parking lot feeling so super excited about the entire session and excited to edit the pictures we just took. This has turned out to be one of my favorite sessions. I’m thrilled to show you some of the best shots from the evening.

Senior Session With a Harp | Mid-Michigan Photographer

This young man right here gives me so much hope in the rising generation. He is kind, he has a gentle heart, he adores his family, and he is genuine. He has a bright future ahead of him, and I already know that he is going to make a positive difference in the world. As we were preparing for his photo shoot, his mom asked me if we could take some pictures with Gideon and his harp at the Chippewa Nature Center. I’m pretty sure I did a happy dance right then and there. On the spot. Shamelessly. YASS. Please, please, PLEASE bring your harp! And can you guess which pictures from his whole session ended up being my favorites? You guessed it.

Our session took place on a super hot day of the year. What is with the weather this week?? But we all had a wonderful time, and Gideon’s mom was amazing in helping carry his things and being there supporting her son. We started out at Dow Gardens, and after taking some great pictures there, we then headed to the Chippewa Nature Center with his harp and a change of clothes. Thanks, Gideon, for an awesome session. You rocked it!

Senior Blond Beauty | Midland Portraits

Meet Nicole. She may be a natural brunette, but I think she pulls blond off super well. She’s fun, she’s sweet, and yes, she’s even a bit sassy. She and I go to the same church together, and she and I are both from a family of eight siblings. Our moms are troopers. 😀 Nicole asked me to take her senior pictures, and I was completely thrilled that she did. As we made plans on where she wanted the shoot to take place and what she wanted to incorporate, I got even MORE excited. I loved all of the things she brought to her shoot. She brought her ukulele, some books (because she loves reading), her viola, and even her track shoes. This blond beauty also brought her mom, and I’m just going to say it right now: MOM’S ARE THE BEST. Go Mom, go! Seriously, if you bring anyone along, bring Mom. They’re so great. They help you to feel comfortable, carry around your crap, and just make things go smoother for your outfit changes. I think that Nicole and I scheduled this shoot on the freaking hottest day of the YEAR. Not of the season (it was fall!), but of the whole entire year. But Nicole handled the heat so well, and I didn’t even have to edit out any sweat. Now that’s a bonus! 😉 We started out at Dow Gardens, then went to downtown, and then we headed to the Chippewa Nature Center. We had a blast! Thanks for an AMAZING session, my dear! Senior with the Best Smile | Michigan Photography

This girl. Alaina’s smile shows her personality: fun-loving, free, and so chill. She can light up a room just by walking into it. This senior contacted me about taking her senior pictures, and I was SO happy that she did. We go to the same church here in Midland, and although I didn’t know her well before, we’ve become good friends now. I love it when my relationship with a client becomes a relationship with a true friend. Alaina brought along one of her best friends on the photo shoot, and I just have to say that it was seriously such a good decision. We laughed SO much, and her friend brought out those natural smiles better than I could have (and that’s saying something!). There were inside jokes, loud laughter, and even…wait for it…twerking. TWERKING. I’m just going to leave that there. I won’t say who the perpetrator(s) were, but it happened and got some of the best smiles and laughter out of this lady. We took pictures at Dow Gardens, and I don’t think I will ever get sick of sessions there. It is one of the best spots in town and is so diverse. Thanks for the awesome session, Alaina!

Summer’s End | Midland Michigan Photographer

You can feel it in the air. Not by the temperature. It’s just a feeling. But summer is coming to an end. Maybe it’s because my oldest is preparing to go back to school (this time as a 1st grader), but I feel more nostalgia for this summer’s end than summers past.

We’ve had such a lovely summer vacation as a family, and I can honestly say that we’ve milked everything out of it that we could. We went to the splash parks, had lazy days in the back yard sand pit, and stayed up later than normal enjoying the beautiful light at the end of each day. We ate lots of ice cream, went on vacation, and read so many books. And we shared our time together as a family. Oh, and have I mentioned yet how often we’ve visited Dow Gardens? Countless times.

When my kids grow up, I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to say that I wish I had spent more time with them. Because I give my time to them. They are what take up most of my time. And in the end, that’s what will matter the most. Thank you, summer 2017. You’ve been good to us.
