Best Friends Session

Best friends are, well, the best! Jada and Chloe have been best friends since third grade, and I don’t think their friendship is going to change anytime soon. They are like two (super cute) peas in a pod. Jada recently won a giveaway over on Instagram. With that, she was able to bring her best friend, Chloe with her. We had a blast together, and we were out shooting for over two hours. Their gorgeous makeup is done by Cathy of Beauty by Cathy. I love her work!

Jada chose Dow Gardens for the shoot to take place. Man, I love that beautiful place. We also tromped all over Whiting Forest. If you ever want an epic session, that’s such a good place for one. I never went there before the canopy walk was put in (yes, I was living under a hole), but I’ve gone dozens of times since. My kids LOVE the playground there. I love the hammocks. 😀

For the past two blog posts, I’ve shown you both Jada’s pictures and Chloe’s. For this one, I’ll show you my favorites of the ones I got with them together. Because, cutest ever.

Gah! I love this one so much.

Best Friend Session Giveaway – Chloe

Chloe and Jada have been best friends since third grade. Isn’t that awesome?? Jada won a best friend session a few months ago, and I recently blogged about her pictures from that day. Today, I’m sharing the ones we took of Chloe.

We started out by meeting together at my house. Cathy Augustin did these girls’ makeup, and I’m always impressed at what a great job she does. An hour later, the three of us drove over to Dow Gardens to start their session. I love best friend sessions! This is my third, and they are always so fun. No one can get you to laugh like a best friend! Here are a few of my favorites from Dow Gardens.

Aren’t her eyes so beautiful? The red shirt really pops with all the green in the background. Pro tip on outfit choice: get something that stands out a bit!

I couldn’t decide which one to put here. I have a super similar picture I took just before this. The only difference is that the other one was more serious. I’m always drawn to close up serious pictures, but I also love a nice, natural smile. I say best friends get you to laugh, but I totally can too! 😉

We had so much fun finding the light at Dow Gardens. We then crossed over that awesome blue bridge (or is it green?) and went to Whiting Forest. I love that place. Also, this rope swing is the bomb.

Best Friend Session Giveaway – Jada

A few months ago I posted on Instagram that I was doing a giveaway. The winner of my giveaway was going to win a professional photo shoot with makeup included with her best friend. Jada won, and we just had the chance to go out a few weeks ago and get her pictures taken.

Jada and her best friend, Chloe, met up at my house at 5:00. We were lucky enough to have my amazing makeup artist joining us. She always does a fabulous job! Cathy, I SO appreciate you. Cathy did her thing, and all of us had fun chatting together. I think the girls were especially excited to get their lashes on. 😉

Up First – Dow Gardens

We left my place around 6:15 and headed straight for Dow Gardens. I let the girls choose where they wanted to go for this best friend session, and I love that they wanted to go here! Here are a few of Jada in Dow Gardens. Next week I’ll be posting the ones of Chloe here.

Isn’t she beautiful? I love how she could pull off a serious look so well while still being able to when I got those out of her. After we tromped around Dow Gardens for a while, we headed across the new bridge into the Whiting Forest. What a gorgeous place that is!

Whiting Forest

Here we played on the canopy walk and took lovely pictures on the trails. It’s becoming a favorite location of mine with all the diversity it has to offer for these portrait sessions.

I ADORE this rope bridge. It makes such an amazing backdrop for these senior sessions!

I’m so glad you won my giveaway, Jada! I had an awesome time with you and Chloe.

A Cruisin’ Good Time to Alaska

A few months ago (you know, after we got our tax return back), my husband randomly turned to me and said, “Do you want to go on a cruise with me?”. I have never been on a cruise before. Ever! And it’s been my dream for the longest time. I said, “YES!!!” and two days later we had booked ourselves a couple of tickets to cruise to Alaska.

Why Alaska? Well, at first we thought we’d go cheap, but cheap meant we would be going someplace hot. Then (like five hours later), we decided that we were going to go BIG. All in ,baby! And we decided to go see Alaska in it’s beauty and during the perfect time of year to do so. Of course, most people who book cruises probably book further out than three months, but I like to live life on the edge.

We just got back less than two weeks ago, and I think it may have been the best week of my life – definitely the best vacation I’ve ever gone on. It was so incredible. We chose Royal Caribbean and loved our experience with them! We had so many things to do on our ship, but we also had a good amount of downtime to rest, relax, and get all wrinkly in the hot tub. Maybe that was what made our vacation so, so good: the fact that we had scheduled activities while still having needed downtime.

Juneau

Our first stop was in Juneau. It is a beautiful place. Traveling through the inner passage was amazing, and we spent as much time as we could on the deck taking pictures and taking it all in.

Mountains and water and clouds in Alaska

We were able to go on a seaplane while we were there and see five different glaciers. It was the highlight of our entire trip. I only wish these pictures would do it justice.

Skagway

We traveled to Skagway the next day, and I think it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I’m not kidding. What a location. There we went on a ziplining excursion. We went over glacial waterfalls in the mountains, and I couldn’t get over how breath-taking everything was. The mountains and the waterfalls and the moss. It was glorious! Thank you for an amazing time, Skagway.

Glacier Day

Our cruise itinerary took us up close to a glacier on one of our days. The whole passage there and back was so gorgeous. Everywhere you looked there were mountains, floating chunks of ice, and waterfalls.

Also, here’s a different perspective for you! The color of the water was so unexpected and gorgeous.

Victoria

We also had the chance to visit Victoria, British Columbia. It is also a gorgeous place! We went on a bus tour of the city for our last excursion, and it was wonderful. Sadly, I don’t really have great pictures from when we were there. But, here’s a picture of our beautiful ship instead!

We had the most amazing time on our trip. I don’t know if we’ll ever make it back to Alaska, but it will always hold a piece of my heart. If you’ve never been, I encourage you to make the effort to get there. It’s beauty is unparalleled.

First Senior of the Year at an Apple Orchard in Freeland, MI

A few weeks ago I blogged the first half of Ella’s session. She chose City Forest here in Midland for one of her locations. We had an awesome time there. For her second location, she chose to go to an apple orchard because she wanted something a bit different than everyone else. I love that! I have never done a real session in an apple orchard, so I was super excited she wanted pictures there. Since my family loves Leaman’s Green Applebarn, I decided to call them up and see if we could do the session there. Thankfully, they were totally OK with it.

After we finished up at City Forest, we all drove out to Freeland. I just love that town. Ella started out this location in such a cute outfit. Don’t you just love her smile and gorgeous eyes?

I don’t normally go for black and white, but those close up shots sure get me sometimes.

We didn’t go out into the orchard itself until the sun was a bit lower in the sky. She changed outfits again, and I love the dress she chose! I always tell me seniors to save their favorite outfit for last. Why? Because at the end of the shoot is normally the best lighting and when they feel most comfortable with me and confident in their pictures. Take a look!
