A Cruisin’ Good Time to Alaska

A few months ago (you know, after we got our tax return back), my husband randomly turned to me and said, “Do you want to go on a cruise with me?”. I have never been on a cruise before. Ever! And it’s been my dream for the longest time. I said, “YES!!!” and two days later we had booked ourselves a couple of tickets to cruise to Alaska.

Why Alaska? Well, at first we thought we’d go cheap, but cheap meant we would be going someplace hot. Then (like five hours later), we decided that we were going to go BIG. All in ,baby! And we decided to go see Alaska in it’s beauty and during the perfect time of year to do so. Of course, most people who book cruises probably book further out than three months, but I like to live life on the edge.

We just got back less than two weeks ago, and I think it may have been the best week of my life – definitely the best vacation I’ve ever gone on. It was so incredible. We chose Royal Caribbean and loved our experience with them! We had so many things to do on our ship, but we also had a good amount of downtime to rest, relax, and get all wrinkly in the hot tub. Maybe that was what made our vacation so, so good: the fact that we had scheduled activities while still having needed downtime.

Juneau

Our first stop was in Juneau. It is a beautiful place. Traveling through the inner passage was amazing, and we spent as much time as we could on the deck taking pictures and taking it all in.

Mountains and water and clouds in Alaska

We were able to go on a seaplane while we were there and see five different glaciers. It was the highlight of our entire trip. I only wish these pictures would do it justice.

Skagway

We traveled to Skagway the next day, and I think it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I’m not kidding. What a location. There we went on a ziplining excursion. We went over glacial waterfalls in the mountains, and I couldn’t get over how breath-taking everything was. The mountains and the waterfalls and the moss. It was glorious! Thank you for an amazing time, Skagway.

Glacier Day

Our cruise itinerary took us up close to a glacier on one of our days. The whole passage there and back was so gorgeous. Everywhere you looked there were mountains, floating chunks of ice, and waterfalls.

Also, here’s a different perspective for you! The color of the water was so unexpected and gorgeous.

Victoria

We also had the chance to visit Victoria, British Columbia. It is also a gorgeous place! We went on a bus tour of the city for our last excursion, and it was wonderful. Sadly, I don’t really have great pictures from when we were there. But, here’s a picture of our beautiful ship instead!

We had the most amazing time on our trip. I don’t know if we’ll ever make it back to Alaska, but it will always hold a piece of my heart. If you’ve never been, I encourage you to make the effort to get there. It’s beauty is unparalleled.
